A robbery was reported late Sunday night at a gold jewellery shop located close to the Shibpur police station, raising concerns over rising criminal audacity in the area. The incident occurred at “Diamond Jewellers” on G.T. Road, where a lone miscreant managed to steal gold ornaments and flee. The entire act was captured on the shop’s CCTV cameras.
According to the shop owner, Vinod Kumar Verma, the accused entered the shop around 8 p.m., posing as a customer. He asked to see gold ornaments and, while being shown the items, suddenly grabbed a gold locket and a mangalsutra before rushing out of the shop.
Despite the shop being situated just a short distance from the Shibpur police station, the accused managed to escape. The shopkeeper and nearby residents attempted to chase him after hearing the commotion, but the miscreant took advantage of the darkness and fled.
