More than 125 kg of ganja was seized after police detained two suspected drug peddlers from a mini goods carriage in Kolkata following specific intelligence inputs. The accused were intercepted while allegedly transporting the contraband from Odisha to Kolkata using a concealed chamber inside the vehicle.
Acting on the tip-off, officers formed multiple teams and kept strict vigil for several hours before stopping a grey Ashok Leyland mini goods carriage bearing registration number WB 19K 6712. A detailed search of the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately 125 kg of ganja packed in 124 blocks, hidden inside a secret chamber secured with screws.
The accused were detained at Khiddirpore Road near its crossing with AJC Bose Road, close to a high mast pillar under Hastings police station area. The suspects failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for possessing such a large quantity of contraband.
The detained persons were identified as Najimuddin Molla and Taijul Molla, both aged 28 and residents of South 24 Parganas district. The contraband and the vehicle were seized, and further legal action is underway, reports said.
