Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Tuesday announced the revocation of GRAP-4 restrictions in Delhi-NCR following a marginal improvement in air quality. Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 378 in the ‘very poor’ category on Tuesday, down from 410 on Monday and 440 on Sunday, prompting the decision to ease the strictest curbs.
The stricter GRAP-4 measures had been imposed on January 17 when the AQI in the capital and surrounding areas entered the “severe” category. Officials cited favourable meteorological conditions and increased wind speed as key factors contributing to the slight improvement in air quality. The Central Pollution Control authority also noted that forecasts indicate the AQI is likely to remain in the ‘very poor’ range in the coming days.
“In view of the above, the Sub-Committee has decided to revoke with immediate effect its order dated 17.01.2026 invoking actions under Stage IV (‘Severe+’ Category, AQI > 450) of the extant GRAP,” the CAQM statement said. The move allows daily activities restricted under Stage IV to resume, though officials cautioned that vigilance remains necessary.
Authorities clarified that actions under Stage I, II and III of the revised GRAP will continue to remain in force. Residents and industries in Delhi-NCR are urged to maintain precautions, especially during early mornings and evenings when pollution levels are expected to remain high.
