OnePlus shutdown rumours false, India operations continue as usual: CEO Robin Liu

Speculation around OnePlus shutting down triggered widespread concern after a report claimed the smartphone brand was being “dismantled” under its parent company. The report cited falling sales, cancelled devices and internal restructuring as signs of a gradual wind-down, especially in global markets.

Responding to the claims, OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu publicly denied the shutdown rumours, stating that the company’s operations in India remain unaffected. In a post, Liu said OnePlus is operating “as usual and will continue to do so,” urging stakeholders and customers to rely only on official communication.

The company also shared a clarification asserting that reports suggesting OnePlus is shutting down are unverified and false. It emphasised that business activities in India continue normally and advised people against spreading unsubstantiated claims.

The rumours gained traction amid reports of certain devices being shelved and a visible decline in OnePlus’ market share over the past year. Industry data shows the brand has lost ground in a highly competitive smartphone market, even as rival manufacturers strengthen their positions.

Despite this, OnePlus has continued launching new products in India, including its flagship OnePlus 15 series and new tablets, indicating ongoing investment in the market. India is widely seen as one of the brand’s key regions in terms of sales and revenue.

Separately, OnePlus India is dealing with a tax dispute related to its lifetime screen replacement programme, for which it has deposited an amount under protest. The company maintains that it has a strong legal case and that the issue does not impact its day-to-day operations.
