Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Kolkata Metro services on the blue line were disrupted early Thursday morning due to a technical fault, causing inconvenience to thousands of commuters at the start of the day. Uninterrupted services were unavailable between 7.35 am and 8.17 am, affecting peak-hour travel for students and office-goers.
Metro operations during the disruption were restricted to partial stretches, running only between Dakshineswar and Maidan, and between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Shahid Khudiram stations. Authorities later clarified that the interruption was caused by unscheduled maintenance work between Rabindra Sadan and Netaji Bhavan stations.
The sudden disruption led to overcrowding at stations and forced many passengers to seek alternative transport, including buses and taxis. School students, many of whom travel alone during early hours, were among the worst affected as delays disrupted their schedules.
Metro officials said restoration efforts were initiated immediately and services were gradually normalised. However, repeated technical and mechanical issues on the blue line have continued to draw criticism from commuters, who say service disruptions have become increasingly frequent in recent weeks.
