A three-year-old boy died after falling into a lift shaft at an under-construction building in Convent Lane under the jurisdiction of Entally Police Station. The child had been reported missing since Wednesday afternoon, triggering a search operation by family members and police.
According to initial information, the child had gone to the rooftop of a G+3 under-construction building at Convent Lane along with his mother to collect dried clothes around 4.30 pm. She reportedly asked the child to go downstairs first, but when she came down, she could not find him. A missing diary was subsequently registered at Entally Police Station and a search was conducted in and around the building.
Later that night, the child was found unconscious inside the lift shaft on the ground floor of the building and was immediately taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Preliminary observations suggest the child suffered a fatal head injury after falling from a height. No complaint has been lodged so far and no foul play has been detected at this stage. However, questions have been raised over the absence of a security guard at the active construction site. Police have started an investigation and a post-mortem examination has been arranged to determine the exact cause of death.
