Jagatballavpur police in Howrah achieved a major breakthrough in their anti-drug campaign by arresting a private tutor with a large quantity of ganja during a late-night operation. The accused was caught red-handed while allegedly transporting the contraband, dealing a significant blow to illegal drug trafficking in the area.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap in the Munshihat area on Tuesday night and intercepted the accused while he was travelling from Digha towards Purash. Around 30 kilograms of ganja, estimated to be worth nearly ₹10 lakh in the illegal market, were recovered from two sacks in his possession. The arrested man is a resident of the Balia area under Jagatballavpur police station limits.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that although he worked as a private tutor, he was actively involved in ganja trafficking. Police seized the contraband, registered a case, and produced him before the Howrah court on Wednesday. The arrest has been seen locally as a strong warning against efforts by anti-social elements to lure youth into drug abuse.
