Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Three people were killed and another seriously injured in a shooting incident on Thursday in Australia’s New South Wales, prompting a major police operation. Emergency services were called to a property in Lake Cargelligo, a rural town with a population of about 1,500, after reports of gunfire.
Police officers arriving at the scene found three victims—two women and a man—dead at the property. Another man was rushed to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. Authorities said the shooter or shooters had not been apprehended and were still at large.
The incident occurred around 4.40 pm local time near Walker Street and Yelkin Street, where a crime scene was established and an investigation launched into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police confirmed that all available resources were being deployed to trace those responsible.
As a precaution, authorities issued geo-targeted text alerts advising residents to avoid the area and remain indoors while the operation continued. The shooting triggered widespread concern in the town, with police urging people to follow official safety instructions until further notice.
The incident coincided with Australia’s National Day of Mourning, observed in memory of victims of a recent mass shooting in Sydney. Officials noted the timing added to the shock of the latest violence as the country reflected on gun-related tragedies.
