At least ten Indian Army personnel were killed and eleven others injured after a military vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Thursday.
The accident occurred at Khanni top along the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate road when the bullet-proof vehicle, carrying 17 soldiers, was moving towards a high-altitude post. The driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to fall nearly 200 feet into the gorge.
A joint rescue operation was immediately launched by the Army and local police. Four soldiers were found dead at the site, while several others were pulled out injured. Six more soldiers later succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to ten.
The injured personnel were rushed for medical treatment, with ten soldiers airlifted to the Udhampur command hospital for specialised care. One injured soldier is under observation at the Bhaderwah sub-district hospital, officials said.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. Senior officials were directed to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured soldiers, as the state administration extended full support to the rescue and relief efforts.
