PM will offer Anjali to Maa Durga this Ashtami in Kolkata, receives multiple invitations
A shocking case has emerged from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, where a 24-year-old MBBS aspirant allegedly amputated part of his own left foot to claim admission under the disability quota. Police say the youth fabricated a story of being attacked by unknown assailants, but investigation later revealed that no outsider was involved.
The incident came to light on January 19 when Suraj Bhaskar, a resident of Khalilpur, was found with four toes of his left foot severed. He was rushed first to the district hospital and later admitted to a private hospital for advanced treatment. His condition is currently stable.
Initially, Suraj told police that two unidentified men attacked him at night while he was alone in his under-construction house, assaulted him, and cut off his foot. Based on his complaint, a case of attempted murder was registered and an investigation was launched under the Line Bazaar police station limits.
However, during the probe, police conducted a detailed inspection of the site, analysed call detail records, and questioned family members. Investigators recovered syringes, anaesthesia vials and cutting tools from near the spot, indicating that the injury was self-inflicted. Police also found that Suraj had knowledge of medical procedures, having completed a D-Pharma course.
According to police, Suraj had been under severe mental stress due to repeated failure to secure admission into MBBS. A diary recovered from him reportedly mentioned his determination to enter medical college at any cost, and CDR analysis suggested he had discussed the plan with his girlfriend. Police said further legal action is underway, calling the case a reflection of rising pressure among youth.
