The Delhi High Court has granted the Lokpal two months to take a decision in the case alleging that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra asked questions in Parliament in exchange for money. The court passed the order while hearing a plea related to approval proceedings against the MP.
The case revolves around allegations that Mahua Moitra misused her position as a Member of Parliament by raising questions in Parliament for monetary benefits. The matter is currently at the stage where the Lokpal is required to decide whether approval should be granted to proceed further.
During the hearing, it was noted that the Lokpal had earlier approached the Delhi High Court seeking additional time to arrive at a decision. The anti-corruption body requested an extension of two months, citing the need for further consideration of the material placed before it.
Accepting the request, the high court allowed the Lokpal the time sought and directed it to take a final decision within the extended period. The court’s order effectively pauses further action in the matter until the Lokpal concludes its assessment.
