Pillion rider dies after lorry hits bike in late-night crash on EM Bypass

A fatal road accident was reported once again on the EM Bypass on Friday night, claiming the life of a pillion rider after a lorry hit a motorcycle near Bengal Chemical, close to the Ultadanga Bridge. The incident triggered panic in the area and added to growing concerns over frequent accidents along the busy stretch.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Das, 42, a resident of Netajinagar Colony on Canal South Road under Maniktala police station. He was travelling as a pillion rider on a motorcycle driven by his son-in-law while heading from Lake Town towards Beleghata along the EM Bypass.

Police said that as the motorcycle came down from the Ultadanga Bridge and reached the Bengal Chemical crossing, a lorry allegedly rammed into it from behind. The impact proved fatal for Sanjay Das, while further details regarding the condition of the rider and the lorry driver are being looked into as part of the investigation.
