Explosion on railway tracks damage Amritsar-Delhi route, loco pilot suffers injury

An explosion on the Amritsar–Delhi railway route in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district has damaged the track and injured a freight train’s loco pilot, prompting a security and sabotage investigation by police and railway authorities. The blast occurred late on Friday night near Khanpur village, causing alarm just days before Republic Day.

The freight train’s loco pilot sustained minor injuries, including a cut on his cheek, and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. Authorities emphasised that there were no reports of fatalities or major structural damage to the train itself.

Police have registered a case against unidentified persons and launched a joint investigation involving forensic and technical teams to determine the cause of the blast and identify those responsible. Security has been heightened in the area as the probe continues, with officials saying early assessments are ongoing and more definitive findings will be shared once available.
