The Newtown police recovered the body of a newborn male infant from a garbage dump in Chandiberia on Saturday. The discovery has sparked significant tension and shock among the residents who first spotted the body amidst the waste pile.
Local authorities arrived at the scene immediately after being alerted and took custody of the infant's remains. The body was transported to the Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital for a formal medical examination and post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigating officers are currently scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify who abandoned the child under the cover of darkness.
