One dead, four critical as speeding car falls into canal in Howrah's Jagatballavpur

A tragic road accident late night in the Jagatballavpur police station area of Howrah district claimed the life of a young man, while four others sustained serious injuries. The incident occurred when a speeding private car lost control and plunged into a roadside canal.

According to local accounts, the accident took place around 1 am as the car was travelling from Amta towards Howrah. Upon reaching the 10 No. Colony area of Jagatballavpur, the driver allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn and fall into the canal beside the road.

Alerted by the loud crash, local residents rushed to the spot and informed the police. Officers from Jagatballavpur police station, with assistance from locals, rescued the occupants trapped inside the car and rushed them to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared one youth dead on arrival, while the remaining four are undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Police suspect overspeeding and poor night-time visibility as possible reasons behind the accident. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause. Efforts are also on to identify the deceased and the injured, as grief grips the local area.
