Son attacks mother with sharp weapon, woman found lying in pool of blood in Diamond Harbour

A shocking incident of matricide has come to light from the Gokarani area under Magrahat police station in the Diamond Harbour subdivision of South 24 Parganas, where a son allegedly murdered his own mother on Saturday afternoon, sending shockwaves across the locality.

The deceased has been identified as Akila Gazi. According to initial information, the incident occurred when other family members had gone to a nearby mosque to offer prayers, leaving Akila Gazi alone at home with her younger son, Ataullah Gazi. During this time, the accused allegedly attacked his mother with a sharp weapon, repeatedly striking her and leaving her critically injured.

When family members returned home, they found Akila Gazi lying in a pool of blood and immediately rushed her to Magrahat Rural Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival due to the severity of her injuries. Following the incident, the accused son fled the scene.

Local residents claimed that Ataullah Gazi had been suffering from mental health issues for some time and that minor disputes had occurred within the family earlier. Police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the murder and whether any other motive was involved.
