Police in Dhupguri of North Bengal have busted a major drug trafficking network, arresting five persons and seizing a large quantity of brown sugar. The racket was allegedly operating under the cover of vegetable trading to evade suspicion in the local market.
Acting on a tip-off, Dhupguri police carried out a raid on Tuesday evening at a residential hotel in the Dhupguri Chowpathy area. Investigators said the accused had been staying at the hotel on rent since January 15 and were using it as a base for their illegal operations.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused introduced themselves as vegetable vendors to conceal their activities while supplying drugs in the region. Senior officials, including Dhupguri SDPO Gailsen Lepcha and the inspector-in-charge of Dhupguri police station, were present during the operation as further investigation into the network continues.
