Abhishek slaps 10-crore defamation notice on Madan Mitra over 'murderer' jibe
A hotel businessman was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Wednesday night in Samserganj, Murshidabad district, triggering panic in the area. The firing took place near the National Highway in the New Dakbangla locality, where multiple rounds were fired at the victim.
The deceased has been identified as Rahul Biswas (34), a resident of Tarbagan in Samserganj. He was earlier engaged in the beedi leaf trade and had recently started a hotel along the National Highway, according to local accounts.
Eyewitnesses said Rahul was inside his hotel when armed miscreants suddenly opened fire at close range. The rapid gunshots created chaos as people nearby ran for cover. After the attack, the assailants fled the spot under the cover of darkness.
Rahul was rushed to a local nursing home in a critical, blood-soaked condition and later referred to the Jangipur Sub-divisional Hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries on the way, reports said.
