NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
A daring daylight theft took place in Chandannagar when thieves ran away with jewellery bags from a gold shop in the Bichalipatti area near Lakshmiganj Market. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. when the shop owner briefly stepped away, allowing the accused to execute the theft. The shop owner, Tapas Pal, had opened his gold shop at around 10 a.m. As part of his daily routine, he brought jewellery from home in bags due to fear of theft. On this occasion, he placed two black bags containing gold and silver jewellery inside the shop’s showcase.
After arranging the bags, Tapas Pal went outside the shop to wash puja utensils at a tap located in front of the premises. At that time, a boy arrived and stood in front of the shop, appearing to keep watch. A few minutes later, another man reached the spot on a motorcycle and stopped in front of the shop without switching off the engine. The boy then entered the shop, picked up the two black jewellery bags, placed them on the motorcycle, and fled the scene swiftly.
As Tapas Pal had his back turned while washing the utensils, he failed to notice the theft as it happened. The incident has caused panic among local traders, highlighting concerns over shop security in busy market areas.
