Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court rejecting the Enforcement Directorate’s allegations of obstruction during the coal smuggling case investigation. In her affidavit, the Chief Minister stated that she did not take any documents related to the probe from the I-PAC office.
She clarified that the documents she carried were only related to Trinamool Congress party work and had no connection with the ED investigation. Mamata Banerjee further asserted that she did not interfere with the probe and was present at the location only for a brief period.
The controversy arose after the ED conducted searches at the residence and office of I-PAC co-founder Prateek Jain in connection with the coal scam case. During the operation, Mamata Banerjee arrived at Jain’s residence and was seen leaving with a green file, following which the ED approached the Supreme Court alleging obstruction and theft of documents.
In her affidavit, the Chief Minister countered the ED’s claims, alleging that the agency attempted to seize confidential Trinamool Congress information under the guise of an investigation. She maintained that the allegations against her were unfounded and politically motivated.
