The Election Commission has rejected an application filed by the West Bengal government, directing 25 senior IAS and IPS officers from the state to undergo mandatory training as election observers in other states. The move is being seen as a significant administrative decision involving top-level bureaucrats from the state.
Among the officers directed to participate in the training are State Home Secretary Jagdish Meena, IPS officer Praveen Tripathi, and senior official Sanjay Bansal. The Election Commission has reportedly issued clear instructions that these officers will be deployed for election-related duties outside West Bengal as part of the observer training process.
The training is part of the Election Commission’s standard procedure to prepare senior administrative and police officials for monitoring elections in different states. Election observers play a crucial role in ensuring free and fair polling by supervising electoral procedures and addressing complaints during elections. The rejection of the state government’s plea has drawn attention due to the involvement of several key administrative figures. The directive underscores the Election Commission’s authority over election-related administrative processes and deployment of officers across states.
