A disturbing case of alleged animal cruelty has surfaced from Telangana’s Jagtial district, where dozens of goats were reportedly bitten on their necks and left to bleed to death during a religious sacrifice. The incident occurred on Tuesday during the Bhimanna Jatra festival held at a temple in Raikal town.
Visuals from the event showed goats bleeding profusely after being bitten, while one image depicted a man with blood smeared across his face and body after biting a goat’s neck. The ritual triggered widespread outrage after the visuals surfaced.
Following a complaint by an animal welfare activist, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Telangana State Act, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Event organisers have been named as accused for allegedly allowing the brutal practice.
Police said an investigation is underway to determine violations of animal protection laws. Authorities have also cautioned festival organisers to strictly adhere to legal and humane practices during religious events.
