The West Bengal Assembly witnessed fresh disruptions on Saturday after the Trinamool Congress filed a notice of breach of privilege against BJP MLA Agnimitra Pal over her controversial remarks on madrasa education and minority development. The move led to sharp protests from the opposition, culminating in a walkout by BJP legislators.
Following the walkout, BJP MLAs held a demonstration within the Assembly premises, displaying posters and accusing the ruling party of silencing dissent. The issue had first surfaced during the budget session on Friday, when Agnimitra Pal, the BJP MLA from Asansol South, questioned increased budget allocations to the Madrasa Education and Minority Development departments.
During her speech, Pal accused the state government of appeasement politics in the name of madrasa education and made remarks questioning the outcomes of madrasa education. She also alleged that government policies were pushing minorities towards crime, comments that drew strong objections from the treasury benches and triggered the privilege notice.
