The Lakshmir Bhandar scheme has resumed in the Bakcha and Gojina gram panchayat areas of Mayna block in Purba Medinipur after intervention by the High Court. Following the court’s directive, ₹1,500 has been credited to the bank accounts of several women who had been awaiting benefits for months.
Around 13,000 to 14,000 women in the two gram panchayat areas were reportedly deprived of the scheme’s benefits for an extended period. The issue was taken to court by a BJP member of the Bakcha gram panchayat, who approached the High Court on January 20 seeking redressal.
After hearing the matter, the High Court on January 29 directed the state government to explain by February 15 why the funds had not reached eligible beneficiaries. Subsequently, the February installment of ₹1,500 was transferred to many accounts, bringing partial relief to affected women.
However, uncertainty remains over the pending dues of the last five to six months. With the next hearing scheduled for February 17, beneficiaries say complete justice will only be achieved once all arrears are cleared.
