No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Nearly 40 passengers were injured after two buses collided near the Satgram No. 8 level crossing on National Highway-19. The accident occurred when a minibus had stopped by the roadside to allow passengers to get down and was rammed from behind by a high-speed express bus.
According to local accounts, the express bus was travelling from the Asansol side towards Durgapur when a stray cow suddenly appeared on the highway. In an attempt to avoid the animal, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the bus to crash into the stationary minibus with great force, severely damaging both vehicles.
Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing screams and helped rescue the injured along with police. Several seriously injured passengers were taken to a private hospital in Raniganj, while others were admitted to Asansol District Hospital. No fatalities have been reported, though anger has grown among locals over frequent accidents caused by stray cattle on the highway.
