After sustained source-based and technical surveillance, investigators identified a suspect from Gaya, Bihar, who was believed to be carrying arms into Kolkata. The suspect arrived in the city by an overnight bus from Gaya. Based on inputs that he would use either an auto or a yellow taxi, police teams began discreet checks of small vehicles in the area.
At around 1 pm, the suspect, identified as Mohammad Isteyak (38), was intercepted while travelling in an auto from Gariahat towards Eastern Bypass. A thorough search led to the recovery of six firearms, including single-shot weapons, revolvers and a pistol, along with 11 live cartridges.
