Netflix informed the Delhi High Court that it will change the title of its upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat following objections over its name and alleged implications. The assurance was given by the streaming platform during a hearing, after which the court disposed of the petition seeking to halt the film’s release and streaming.
The platform also told the court that all promotional material related to the film had already been removed from social media. Taking note of the submission, the court found no reason to continue proceedings in the matter.
The controversy erupted after objections were raised to the film’s title, with allegations that it was defamatory and capable of hurting communal sentiments. The issue gained momentum after the film’s first look and teaser were unveiled earlier this month, prompting formal protests and legal action.
The film, starring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role, had drawn criticism for its title, which some claimed was derogatory towards a particular community. With Netflix agreeing to rename the film, the legal dispute has now been brought to a close.
