BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A major fraud has surfaced in Talbona Colony under Simlagarh Vitasin Gram Panchayat in Pandua block of Hooghly district, where a man allegedly posed as a senior official of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and cheated villagers of lakhs of rupees. The accused reportedly collected money on the pretext of providing jobs and later disappeared, leaving several families financially distressed.
According to local accounts, the man, identified as Rasmoy Paik, arrived in the area a few weeks ago claiming that recruitment was underway for the post of supervisor in DVC. He allegedly asked each interested candidate to deposit ₹13,660 as part of the process. Trusting his claims and hoping to secure employment, four to five families handed over substantial sums to him.
The accused also reportedly engaged villagers to clean a DVC canal, promising daily wages of ₹600. Around 18–19 families worked for 10 to 12 days and cleaned nearly five kilometres of the canal. However, after the work was completed, he allegedly avoided paying the promised wages, switched off his mobile phone and fled the area.
