Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Asansol South MLA Agnimitra Paul on Wednesday faced protests during her public outreach programme in the New Egara area under Raniganj CD block of Paschim Bardhaman district. Slogans of “Go Back” were raised as tensions escalated at the event, marking another instance of resistance during her visits to the constituency after similar incidents in Tirat and Nimcha.
The BJP alleged that Trinamool Congress workers surrounded the MLA, protested against her presence and attempted to misbehave. According to the party, objections over heckling and comments soon turned into a heated argument between the two sides. BJP leaders claimed that their workers were verbally abused and physically attacked during the confrontation.
However, the protesters defended their actions, stating that the MLA had remained largely absent from the constituency over the past five years and had failed to fulfil promises made to the people. The incident has once again intensified political tensions in the Asansol Sadar subdivision.
