A major road accident involving three trucks caused chaos on Asian Highway-2 in the Hathighisa area of Naxalbari early Thursday morning. The collision left one truck severely damaged and another cement-laden vehicle overturned on the road, disrupting traffic for several hours. One driver was seriously injured in the incident.
According to local sources, a stone-laden truck heading towards Naxalbari rammed into a cement-laden truck that was parked by the roadside. The force of the impact pushed the stationary truck forward, causing it to collide with another truck ahead. The cement-laden truck subsequently overturned on the highway.
The front portion of the stone-laden truck was completely crushed in the crash, trapping the driver inside the cabin. Police from Naxalbari police station rushed to the spot after receiving information. Rescue operations were carried out using a gas cutter to open the mangled front section of the vehicle and pull the driver out.
The injured driver was shifted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and are examining the sequence of events that led to the pile-up.
