The death of a teenage student who fell from a coaching centre building in Phulwarisharif has triggered allegations of murder, intensifying pressure on police as three men have been detained and CCTV footage comes under scrutiny. The student, Pinky Kumari, an intermediate first-year student, died after falling from the fourth floor of a coaching institute in Phulwarisharif. While the coaching centre management initially termed the incident an accident, her family has alleged she was killed. Relatives said Pinky left home around 8 am for her coaching class, located about two kilometres away, but within an hour they were informed of her fall. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The family’s suspicions grew during funeral preparations when they noticed what they described as sharp-object injuries on her back and other parts of her body. Her father, Satyendra Rai, and brother, Priyanshu, alleged that the wounds could not have been caused by a fall alone. Following their complaint, police sent the body for postmortem examination, stating that the cause of death would be confirmed only after the report. Investigators have seized CCTV footage from the building, which reportedly shows Pinky climbing the stairs soon after entering the premises, followed by two young men. Minutes later, she is seen falling, after which the two men descend, pause briefly and flee. Sushil Kumar, SDPO-2 of Phulwarisharif, confirmed that three people have been detained for questioning, including two painters working in the building, as police examine whether the student was forcibly taken to the fourth floor.
The case has taken a political turn with Pappu Yadav questioning the police investigation and alleging negligence in serious crimes. The incident has fuelled anger and anxiety among local residents, who are demanding a transparent and thorough probe. Pinky’s family said she had been preparing for engineering entrance examinations, adding to the grief and shock surrounding her death.
