A major fire broke out late at night at a motorcycle showroom on Jessore Road adjacent to Gaighata Market, completely gutting the premises and triggering panic in the area. According to preliminary estimates, property worth approximately ₹80 to ₹90 lakh was destroyed in the blaze.
Local sources said the fire started after midnight and quickly spread across the showroom. Residents noticed thick smoke and flames billowing from the building and immediately informed the owner, police and the fire department. Within a short span, the entire establishment was engulfed.
Two fire engines rushed to the spot and battled the flames for nearly three hours before bringing the situation under control. However, by then, 40 to 42 new motorcycles stored inside the showroom, along with servicing equipment and spare parts, had been completely reduced to ashes.
