In a significant breakthrough ahead of the Assembly elections, police under Bhatpara Police Station arrested a notorious criminal with illegal arms from the Kolabagan Lane area. The accused, identified as Rabi Paswan, was found in possession of four illegal firearms and two live cartridges, raising fresh concerns over security and law and order in sensitive pockets.
Acting on confidential inputs about suspicious movements and a possible arms consignment in the locality, a special police team laid a trap and apprehended Paswan. The recovery of multiple firearms just before the elections has triggered alarm within administrative circles, with heightened vigilance being maintained in the area.
Police records indicate that Paswan has a long criminal history and alleged links with active local gangs. Following his arrest, he was produced before the Barrackpore Sub-Divisional Court, where police initiated proceedings to seek his remand to investigate the broader network behind the illegal arms supply.
