First-year medical student found hanging in Durgapur hostel bathroom

A 22-year-old first-year medical student was found hanging in the hostel bathroom of IQ City Medical College in Durgapur on Sunday, triggering shock and concern on campus. The deceased has been identified as Lavanya Pratap, a resident of Bhola Road in Patna, Bihar.

According to preliminary information, Lavanya had gone to the bathroom late on Saturday night but did not return for a long time, prompting fellow students to grow suspicious. They alerted the police, who reached the hostel and broke open the bathroom door, where he was found hanging. The incident has been described as occurring under mysterious circumstances.

Police conducted a post-mortem examination on Sunday afternoon under the supervision of a Deputy Magistrate. The body was later sent to Asansol District Hospital. The exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is released.

Lavanya’s father, Anil Rai, reached Durgapur after being informed by hostel mates late Saturday night. He said his son had not received good marks in a project in his annual examination and had applied for re-evaluation. He added that the family is awaiting the official report to understand the circumstances surrounding the death.
