Motorbike found on flyover, rider’s body recovered 9 feet under Jalpaiguri highway

The body of a 36-year-old man was found beneath a flyover in the Gaurihat area along the Jalpaiguri–Siliguri National Highway early Sunday morning, triggering concern in the locality. The deceased has been identified as Raj Thapa, a resident of Nayabasti in Jalpaiguri and a civil engineer by profession.

According to preliminary information, Thapa was returning to Jalpaiguri from Siliguri on his motorcycle. At around 4:00 a.m., his bike was spotted lying on the flyover. A search of the area led to the discovery of his blood-soaked body approximately nine feet below the structure.

Local sources said the motorcycle was found by the roadside on the flyover, while the body was located directly underneath. The circumstances of the incident have raised questions about whether it was a road accident or involved other factors.

Police reached the spot after being informed and took the body into custody before sending it for post-mortem examination. Initial suspicion suggests that a speeding vehicle may have hit the motorcycle from behind, causing him to lose balance and fall off the flyover. However, officials said an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
