India’s 1st ‘cow culture museum’ coming up in UP's Mathura, says govt body

India’s first national cow culture museum will be established in Mathura, with the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad announcing that the facility will come up on the campus of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Science University. Backed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the initiative aims to highlight the cultural, spiritual and scientific significance of cows in Indian society.

The announcement was made following a meeting of district officials and members of the Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad in Mathura. The Parishad, constituted to preserve and promote the heritage of the Braj region, said the museum will present a comprehensive narrative of the cow’s role in religion, culture and rural economy, while also underlining its scientific utility.

According to officials, the museum will feature around 100 digital and physical models of cattle, including all major indigenous breeds found across the country as well as endangered varieties. The objective is to provide future generations with a deeper understanding of India’s diverse cattle heritage and to strengthen awareness around conservation.

A dedicated exhibition on cow milk and its products will be a key attraction. Visitors will be informed about the nutritional and Ayurvedic benefits of milk, curd, cheese and ghee using modern presentation techniques. A dairy parlour will also be developed within the premises to offer pure dairy products, reflecting what officials described as a unique amalgamation of tradition and science.
