Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit West Bengal in the second week of March and is expected to address a public rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, a venue he last addressed in March 2021. According to a senior BJP leader, the rally is likely to take place on March 15. The visit comes as the state gears up for Assembly elections, with political activity intensifying across party lines.
In the run-up to the Prime Minister’s visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in the state on Wednesday. Shah will travel from Kolkata Airport to Mayapur, where he will participate in programmes at the ISKCON temple, including the 152nd birth anniversary celebration of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. He is also expected to attend religious rituals, meet saints and monks, and perform aarti to Lord Krishna. Security arrangements have been heightened in Nadia district in view of his visit.
The BJP is simultaneously planning to organise Rath Yatras across several districts of South Bengal as part of its election outreach. Party sources said the yatras will commence after the Holi celebrations and culminate at the Brigade Parade Ground on the day of the Prime Minister’s rally. Internal meetings are underway to finalise routes and logistics.
Alongside public mobilisation, the party is preparing its manifesto for the West Bengal Assembly elections. This time, it has sought public feedback through a drop-box system and intends to incorporate suggestions into its document. The process of finalising candidates for all 294 Assembly seats is also in progress, after which the list will be sent to the central leadership for approval.
