Tension flared at a private nursing home in Bankra, a census town under Domjur CD Block in Howrah district, after the death of a 65-year-old patient triggered allegations of medical negligence. The deceased, identified as Aarti Pandit, had been admitted on Monday night with complaints of mild stomach pain. According to family members, she had spoken to them earlier in the morning, but her condition reportedly deteriorated later, leading to her death.
Alleging negligence on the part of the hospital authorities, agitated family members vandalised parts of the nursing home premises soon after the news of her death. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and brought the situation under control. The incident has created unrest in the area as authorities look into the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death.
