Young man dragged for kilometres on Mercedes bonnet in Ranchi, high court lawyer detained

A shocking incident in Ranchi’s Doranda area on Tuesday left the city stunned after a young man was allegedly dragged for several kilometres on the bonnet of a luxury Mercedes. The incident reportedly began near Rajendra Chowk when the vehicle allegedly hit a woman, prompting the youth to intervene and protest. What followed was a harrowing ordeal that narrowly spared his life.

According to officials, as the young man tried to stop the car, he was pinned to the bonnet while the driver continued speeding through the streets. Despite attempts by Home Guard personnel to intercept the vehicle, it continued moving for several kilometres with the victim clinging on. The accused has been identified as high court advocate Manoj Tandon, who was later taken into police custody. Reports further allege that after the vehicle finally stopped, the injured youth was taken to the accused’s residence, where he was assaulted again. Police intervened in time, rescued the victim, and ensured he received immediate medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable, while investigators continue to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The incident triggered widespread outrage, with a large crowd gathering outside Doranda police station demanding strict action. The matter reached the Jharkhand High Court, where the bar association informed the bench about the advocate’s detention and sought protection for him from potential mob violence. The court reiterated that no one is above the law and directed police to proceed strictly according to legal provisions as the investigation continues.
