Ahead of polls, Amit Shah credits BJP for curbing infiltration, promises strict action in Assam

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday accused Indian National Congress of allowing large-scale infiltration into Assam and said the situation changed after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power. Addressing a public programme in Cachar district, he alleged that infiltration had been the state’s main problem for decades and impacted jobs, land and resources.

Shah claimed the BJP government worked to stop illegal entry in its first term and later cleared encroachments. He said the administration led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma removed large areas of land from alleged encroachers and strengthened border enforcement measures.

He promised that every infiltrator who entered the state during earlier governments would be deported. The remarks come months before Assembly elections, with the ruling party focusing on border security and demographic concerns as key campaign issues.

During the visit, Shah also launched the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at improving infrastructure in border settlements across multiple states and Union Territories. He said the initiative seeks to ensure development and connectivity in remote border regions while strengthening security presence.
