Organizer files police complaint against Mimi Chakraborty, seeks apology and ₹20 lakh damages

The controversy involving Bengali actress and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty has taken a fresh turn, with event organizer Tanay Shastri filing a formal police complaint against her at Bangaon Police Station in North 24 Parganas. Shastri has demanded a public apology and refund of ₹2.65 lakh paid as her performance fee, alleging that her accusations have damaged his reputation. Earlier, he had also sent her a legal notice seeking ₹20 lakh in compensation for alleged defamation.

Shastri, who recently spent 14 days in judicial custody in connection with a harassment case filed by the actress, claimed that Mimi Chakraborty failed to appear on stage at the scheduled time despite receiving payment. “She did not come on stage at the scheduled time, so I have demanded the return of the money. Because of her complaint, my image has been tarnished. She must apologize publicly,” he said, adding that he has also submitted a written complaint at the Superintendent of Police’s office.

He denied any misconduct during the event and alleged that a “false case” led to his arrest and judicial custody. According to Shastri, police had visited his residence during the investigation, where he was later accused of obstructing police duty. He and two associates were subsequently arrested under non-bailable sections on charges of harassment and obstructing government work before being granted bail on February 11.

The dispute stems from an event held last month in North 24 Parganas, where Mimi Chakraborty was the final performer. The actress alleged that her performance was halted midway after midnight on the grounds of lack of permission and that she was removed from the stage. She later filed a police complaint accusing the organizer of harassment.

With Shastri now pursuing defamation claims and threatening further legal action if no apology or compensation is offered, the matter appears headed for a prolonged legal battle. No official response has yet been issued by the actress regarding the latest complaint.
