Bride shot during jaimala ceremony in Buxar, alleged lover on the run | Watch

An 18-year-old bride was shot during her jaimala ceremony in Bihar’s Buxar district late Tuesday night, triggering panic and chaos at the wedding venue. The incident took place in Chausa Mallah Toli under the Mufassil police station area when the bride and groom were on stage for the garland exchange ritual. The injured bride is undergoing treatment, while the accused is absconding.

According to police, the wedding procession had arrived from Sulemanpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district. As the ceremony was underway and guests watched the couple on stage, a young man with his face covered suddenly climbed onto the platform and fired at the bride, identified as Aarti Kumari (18), daughter of Nand Ji Mallah. She collapsed immediately after being shot, sending the gathering into chaos.

The accused fled the scene soon after the firing. Family members and locals rushed the injured bride to Sadar Hospital. Due to her critical condition, doctors referred her to Varanasi for advanced medical treatment.

In her statement to police, the bride identified the attacker as her neighbour, Dinbandhu Mallah. Family members alleged that the accused had one-sided feelings for her and had earlier objected to her marriage.

Police from Mufassil police station reached the spot and launched an investigation. Additional Station House Officer Chandan Kumar said prima facie the case appears to be linked to a love affair. Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused, who remains at large.
