In a major crackdown ahead of the Assembly elections, security agencies seized approximately 450,000 US dollars during a late-night raid in Kolkata’s Park Street area and arrested three suspects. The recovered foreign currency is estimated to be worth around ₹4 crore in the Indian market, raising concerns over the possible movement of illegal funds in the run-up to the polls.
Police conducted the operation on Tuesday night in the heart of the city following specific inputs. During the raid, officers apprehended three individuals and recovered the substantial amount of foreign currency from their possession. The swift action is being seen as part of heightened vigilance to curb the flow of unaccounted money before the elections.
According to preliminary investigation, the arrested persons have been identified as Sayan Das, Mohammad Asad, and Firoz Khan. Police sources stated that all three are originally residents of Mumbai. Further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended use of the seized money.
