Police arrested a father-son duo early Wednesday morning in connection with the Tiljala shooting incident that left a 23-year-old youth injured. The accused, identified as Mohammad Salman and his father Mohammad Anwar, were apprehended near Tiljala Railway Gate No. 2 while allegedly attempting to flee the city. A firearm, one magazine and two live cartridges were recovered from their possession during the operation.
According to police, the arrest was made around 3 a.m. after officers received specific information that the duo was planning to escape under the cover of darkness. Acting on the tip-off, a raid was conducted near a rickshaw stand in the area, where the suspects were surrounded and taken into custody. Both had reportedly gone into hiding following the firing incident.
The shooting took place late Monday night on Tiljala Road under the jurisdiction of Beniapukur Police Station. It is alleged that Mohammad Salman called 23-year-old Mohammad Niyaz alias Raja out of his residence and opened fire on him. Two rounds were reportedly fired, and the victim sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was rushed to SSKM Hospital and is currently undergoing treatment. Police are investigating whether the attack was linked to an earlier altercation among local youths, while security has been tightened in the area to prevent further unrest.
