Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A Class XI student was found hanging in her room at Kanchanshree village under Rajganj block near Siliguri, sending shockwaves through the locality. Police recovered the minor’s body on Wednesday and sent it for post-mortem examination. Preliminary findings suggest she may have taken the extreme step following an alleged dispute in a personal relationship, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.
According to family members, the girl had returned home from school as usual and had her meal before locking herself inside her room. When she did not respond to repeated calls for a prolonged period, relatives grew suspicious. They later peeped through a window and saw her hanging from the ceiling.
Family members broke open a window to enter the room and alerted the Rajganj police station. Officers rushed to the spot and took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The body has been sent for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The family alleged that the minor had been in a relationship with a young man and that an argument between them may have preceded the incident. They claimed the two had spoken at length the previous day. A formal complaint has been lodged, and police have initiated an investigation into all possible angles.
The tragic incident has left residents of the village in deep distress. Police said the matter is under investigation and further steps will be taken based on the post-mortem findings and statements recorded from family members.
