"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Bibhas Chandra Adhikari, former Trinamool president of Block No. 2 in Lalati, Birbhum, appeared at the Enforcement Directorate office at 11:50 a.m. in connection with the ongoing primary teacher recruitment case. The investigation, coordinated with the CBI, is examining alleged corruption in the recruitment process and financial irregularities linked to the appointments.
Earlier, central agencies had conducted raids at multiple locations, including a flat on Amherst Street in North Kolkata connected to Adhikari, following the arrest of Manik Bhattacharya. In April 2023, the CBI had also raided Adhikari’s residence and ashram in Birbhum, seizing a substantial amount of material related to the alleged recruitment scam.
The CBI filed a chargesheet in October 2025 naming Manik Bhattacharya, Bibhas Chandra Adhikari, and Ratna Bagchi, revealing that around 350 individuals were recruited through the network. The ED has gained access to bank accounts associated with the transactions, and investigations continue into the financial and organizational links behind the scheme.
