The final voter list prepared under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal will be published on Saturday, with the Election Commission of India deciding to provide a soft copy to all registered political parties in the state. The move is aimed at ensuring greater transparency ahead of the upcoming elections.
This year’s final list will display names under three categories — General, “Under Consideration,” and “Deleted.” The inclusion of two additional categories marks a significant change in the presentation of the electoral roll. Officials said the updated structure is intended to make the status of voters clearer and more accessible.
According to an official from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the state, voters can verify their names online through the official website of the Election Commission of India by entering their name and voter ID number. The website of the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal will also provide the same facility. Additionally, voters may check their details on the websites of their respective District Election Officers.
Offline arrangements have also been made to facilitate verification. Copies of the final voter list will be available with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and voters can contact them directly for confirmation. Hard copies of the list will also be displayed at polling stations, enabling voters to check their names in person.
The Commission clarified that the “Under Consideration” category will include names of voters whose identity documents are under scrutiny before judicial officers, as directed by the Supreme Court. Once the verification process is completed and approvals are granted, these names will be published in a supplementary list. Meanwhile, the “Deleted” category will comprise names removed during the special revision drive that began in November, a step seen as strengthening transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
