Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Israel launched a series of massive strikes on Iran early Saturday, with the United States confirming it joined the coordinated operation, sharply escalating tensions in the region. More than 30 targets were hit across multiple Iranian cities, including key military and intelligence installations. Following the strikes and amid fears of retaliation, Israel declared a nationwide state of emergency and placed its security forces on high alert.
Explosions rocked central Tehran, with thick smoke seen rising from several locations. Among the reported targets were Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, Ministry of Defense, the Parchin military complex, and sites near the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency. Strikes were also reported in Qom, Isfahan and Ilam city, indicating the scale and spread of the operation. Iranian state television confirmed blasts in the capital but did not immediately provide details on casualties or damage.
US President Donald Trump confirmed American participation in the strikes, stating that the objective was to eliminate imminent threats and defend US interests. A US official also acknowledged joint action with Israel. Early reports suggested that the operation may have included an attempted assassination of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, though Iranian authorities later confirmed he was safe.
Iran swiftly shut its entire airspace until further notice and signaled strong retaliation. A senior Iranian official warned of a “crushing” response, while Ebrahim Azizi, Chairman of the National Security Committee in the Iranian Parliament, issued a stern warning to Israel. The developments have raised fears of a wider confrontation in the Middle East.
Sirens were sounded across Jerusalem and Tel Aviv as a precaution against possible missile attacks. The Israel Defense Forces announced nationwide restrictions from 8 am, shifting the country to essential services only, with schools closed and public gatherings suspended as authorities prepared for potential escalation.
