Amid indications of the upcoming West Bengal elections and the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SIR) process, a company of central security forces reached Kaliachak in Malda district on Friday night and immediately began area inspections with local police. Border Security Force personnel conducted route marches in several sensitive pockets, including Chowringhee, to maintain law and order and instill confidence among voters. The deployment comes shortly after the publication of the final voter list, triggering heightened political activity in the district.
Late into the night, security forces continued patrolling busy and sensitive areas of Malda as part of confidence-building measures. Officials said the objective of the route march was to ensure peace and prevent any untoward incidents during the election period. The visible presence of central forces has led to strong political reactions locally, reflecting the tense pre-poll atmosphere.
Meanwhile, central forces also arrived in the Taherpur Police Station area of Nadia district on Friday afternoon. Officer-in-Charge Joy Das welcomed senior officers of the central force upon their arrival. With heavy voting activity expected from Saturday, residents of Nadia are witnessing increased security arrangements as authorities aim to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.
