The All India Shia Personal Law Board has announced protests and mourning across the country following the reported killing of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader. Leaders of the organisation said black flags will be hoisted on homes and people will wear black clothes as a mark of grief.
According to community leaders, the call was made to express solidarity with Iran and to protest the circumstances surrounding Khamenei’s death. The board also urged members of the Shia community to organise special prayers and peaceful demonstrations during the mourning period.
Protests and condolence gatherings have already been reported in several Indian cities, including Srinagar, Lucknow, Bhopal and Hyderabad. Demonstrators carried posters and raised slogans condemning the attack and expressing solidarity with Iran and the global Shia community.
Authorities in some areas increased security as rallies and mourning processions took place. Community leaders also appealed for calm while urging people to observe the mourning period peacefully.
